If you’ve enjoyed our digital history collection River to Rail, you will love attending an author talk with Captain Rick Rhodes.
Rhodes will be at the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library on Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. to talk about his new book “Ohio River: American History and Voyaging on Today’s River.”
More than 300 years of American history are woven into the book, including the French and Indian War, the American Revolution in the West, our nation’s expansion into the Northwest Territories, Lewis and Clark on the Ohio River, the Underground Railroad, the Civil War, the Steamboat Era, the evolution of the current lock and dam system, and the rise and decline of 19th & 20th Century river industries, as well as the colorful local histories of 200 river towns.
Rhodes has written a half-dozen books on traveling by boat mixing history with the practical.
