2008 Book Buddies
What do you get when you combine reading, mentoring and local history? Book Buddies!
Each week this spring, program creator Louise Kant and children’s librarian Brenda Evans picked up students at Lydia Middleton Elementary School and walked together to landmarks in the downtown Madison historic landmark district.
First, the students learned about local history as they were given personal tours at each of the historic sites. The students then settled in at the site where they selected books and read to one another with the older students acting as mentors for the younger students.
Book Buddies is a collaboration between the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library, Lydia Middleton Elementary School in cooperation with the Jefferson County Historical Society, Historic Madison Inc., the city of Madison and other Madison historic sites.
Here are the 2008 Book Buddies!

My brother was in book buddies and had so much fun with it. I glad he had a chance to do this.
