Chinese Dance exhibition @ MJCPL 3/13
Join us for a wonderful exhibition of Chinese cultural dances with professional dancer Mike Qi on Thursday, March 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the library auditorium. Qi will demonstrate traditional dances such as the Fan dance, Scarf dance and Sword dance.
Mike Qi was a professional dancer and dance professor in China. He was one of only 20 students accepted for the Chinese Dance Academy in Tianjin, China, out of 1,000 who auditioned. He attended the academy for five years, from ages 13 to 18, studying ballet and the dances of various Chinese ethnic groups.
As a professional dancer he represented China, expressing Chinese culture through dance, throughout Asia and the Middle East. He won many awards during his 25 year career, at on time even being recognized as the best performer and dancer of all time.
In 2002, Mike and his wife, Suzie, moved to Madison where Suzie began coaching at Madison Gymnastics World. Formerly Suzie was a rhythmic gymnastics coach for the Chinese National Team. Mike and Suzie have a son, Qi, who attends Madison Consolidated High School.
This program is free and open to the public. DON’T MISS IT!
librarian’s note: We just saw Mike and his wife practice today. It was amazing. They said dance is an integral part of spring celebrations so welcome spring by joining us. You won’t regret it!
