Regatta Parade!!!

For years I’ve wanted to do a book cart drill team for a parade. What is a book cart drill team you ask? Simple, people push decorated book carts in formations. Like those little cars that zoom around in circles and figure 8s in the parades, except with book carts. And we can do more than just circles and figure 8s.

Although since this is our first attempt, we will keep it simple. Very simple.

But, it won’t work without people. I need 3 to 5 more RELIABLE kids to help with this. It will mean weekly practices at the library on Friday mornings starting June 12.

If you are interested email me (Shonica), my email is on this page somewhere. Click on it and a box will pop up. Or you can call me at the library on Tuesday mornings, Thursdays or Fridays.

Trust me, this is going to be cool! BUT, only if you are here to help.
Waiting to hear from you,
Shonica

Express Yourself @ the library

expressyourselfteaser.pngCan you feel it? The tingle of excitement. The rush of anticipated freedom. The growing expectation that is the approach of summer. That’s right ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls… summer is almost here. We can feel it.

And of course, summer means summer reading at the library.

This year the library is overflowing with activities and adventure for young adults, aka 5th through 8th graders…those who have left grades 5 through 8, I should say.

There is the summer reading club that anyone between Kindergarten and 9th can do. You know the drill, for every 30 minutes that you read, mark off a spot in the booklet. When a row is completed you can pick up your prize. But if you are a young adult and you complete the booklet, your name will be entered in a drawing for 2 tickets to Newport Aquarium in addition to lots of other prizes from businesses around Madison.

Pizza and Pages … A summer favorite. Sign up to read a book. Pick it up one week before the discussion. Show up the day of the discussion, eat free pizza from Pizza Hut and talk about the book. Keep the book. It is yours forever and ever.

Express Yourself Fridays … @ 1:00 starting the last Friday in June and going until the last Friday in July we will find different ways to Express Ourselves. Not only will you have a fant-abulous time but every week I will give away tickets to the Louisville River Bats. Sweet, eh?

Dungeons and Dragons… Summer is a fine time for our dungeon hunting friends to get together and adventure to their hearts content. To make it sweeter, I have a boat load of prizes from Urban Viking Gaming Center to give away each time we meet. You don’t want to miss it.

Talent Show … This is a great way to show off your amazing skills and talents, and to cheer on your friends. It’s a show not a contest, so be ready to clap and cheer for everyone.

And one more thing, remember the prizes that include 2 tickets to Newport Aquarium…. if you attend Pizza and Pages, Express Yourself Fridays or Dungeons and Dragons… you will have that many more opportunities to win. As if you didn’t have enough incentive to come to those things.

Can’t wait to see you Express Yourself @ the library!!

Another way to Express Yourself this summer!!

expressyourselfteaser.pngDo you sing? Dance? Write poetry? Act? Play an instrument? Twirl a baton? Have a stupid pet trick? Tell jokes?

What talent do you want to share with everyone?

On Wednesday, July 15th there is going to be a Talent Show at the library. If you are interested you can call the library at 265-2744 to sign up. There will be a rehearsal on Wednesday July 8 at 9:00.

I’d love it if a bunch of you guys decided to do this. Just remember that your performance must be family friendly. If it isn’t appropriate for a 4 year old to see or hear, then it isn’t appropriate.

This is a show, not a contest. Everyone claps for everyone and a good time will be had by all!!
It should be a blast! Hope to see you there.

Express Yourself Fridays @ 1:00

expressyourselfteaser.pngFor 5th – 8th graders! If you are signed up for Pizza and Pages, you can stay for more fun. If you aren’t doing Pizza and Pages, which doesn’t make sense but whatever, show up at 1:00 to Express Yourself!

June 26 – Michelangelo Painting
The paper will be under the table and you must lay on your back to paint. Wear old clothes.

July 3 – Sculpting with play dough
What could be more fun? Nothing!

July 10 – Wacky Writers
Bring your pen and notebook. We will express ourselves wackily.

July 17 – Sock puppets
Express yourself with a sock and some googly eyes. Bring a sock.

July 24 – Improv / Drama games
Think Who’s Line Is It Anyway.

July 31 – Iron Ons
There has to be a better name for this but I couldn’t think of it. Bring a t-shirt or a canvas bag and we will decorate with fabric markers and …. my BEDAZZLER!! This was so much fun last year!!

Can’t wait to see you guys this summer!!! I love the theme this year. Express Yourself @ the library
