Let's Talk About Harry ... spoilers ahead

Holy cow!
I promised that I would write about Harry Potter so I have to, but honestly I don’t know if I’ve quite absorbed it all yet. Sure, I finished on Saturday, but still… there was a lot to absorb.

Have you finished the book too? If so, lets talk…

First of all, someone please tell me that I’m not the only one who sobbed like a dang baby more than once. That darn book was a blood bath. Geez, Hedwig and Madeye were dead before page 80. Then when Dobby died… I’m just not ready to talk about that yet. Dobby, the sweet wonderful house elf that we all loved so much. The house elf that I dreamed would someday come and live at my house so that I would never have to cook or do the dishes again. Dobby Dobby Dobby Dobby WHY??? I just can’t get over it.

And Tonks and Lupin!! Leaving poor little Teddy an orphan. That seems so unfair. Of course, I suppose that there is something about the fact that Harry lost his parents to Voldemort and was left with a godparent and now he himself is the godparent to a child who lost his parents to Voldemort. Somehow I think that there was a brilliantly romantic death scene that we have all missed.

Fred Weasley. I was surprised that it was Percy who had to be drug away and not George. I didn’t see that coming. Although I wasn’t at all surprised that one of the twins died. I knew that it would be a sad, sad time for the Weasleys. With all of those Weasleys running around, the odds were against them.

Does anyone else wish that he/she was a Weasley? I love that family!!

And while we are discussing Weasleys… Mrs. Weasley kicking Belatrix butt was amazing!!

And I’m so glad that Ginny didn’t die so that she and Harry could get married and have babies and live happily ever after.

I thought that the way that she ended it with Harry and Ginny’s kids heading off to Hogwarts was brilliant.

Clearly I could babble on and on about this topic but I won’t. So how about this… You comment and tell me what you thought of the book and we can all discuss it.
For example I didn’t even mention Snape so that needs to be discusssed. OH OH OH and Kreacher and his transformation!! Oh yea, we need to talk.

I can’t wait to hear what you think.

I was disappointed that Ginny didn’t get to play a bigger role. She’s a hip character. But it’s cool that Neville discovered himself as a leader.

The epilogue was cute, but begs the question. What is Harry doing to support his family?

— Jerry Yarnetsky    Jul 29, 07:00 PM    #

I’m sure that he is an auror. Don’t you think? What else would Harry Potter be when he grows up?

— Shonica    Jul 29, 07:16 PM    #

You’d think I hadn’t read the first six books. As soon as I asked that question, I remembered reading that that’s what he wanted to do.

By the way, JK confirmed it. Here’s an msnbc article with more epilogue information.

— Jerry Yarnetsky    Jul 29, 08:50 PM    #

Yes. I can picture Harry as an auror, but I can also see him at the ministry in a leadership role. He has family money in the “G” vaults and may have chosen to be a public servant in the wizarding world.

— Jim Rogers    Jul 29, 09:15 PM    #

I thought Harry should have died, but it rocked that Ron and Hermione had little Weasley babies. I thought it was a little strange that Harry and Ginny named their kid after Snape.

— Jackie Preston    Jul 31, 01:27 PM    #

I loved this book. THe plot was so cool! I always knew Snape was good. I also was the anonymous who also thought Harry was a horcrux. WEirdly enough Harry was kinda one and he survived. I probably post more about this. Long live Harry POtter!

— Danielle ROCKS!!! YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT!!!!!    Jul 31, 02:08 PM    #

Oh my goodness, Jackie! I can’t believe that you thought that Harry should have died. I love Harry and was totally geeked that he and Ginny got married and had little babies. I do wonder if James’ middle name was Sirius.

And Danielle, did you love the way that JK dealt with Snape and the reason he was good?

I didn’t read the article about what jobs everyone had but I heard parts of it. Something about Hermione working in magical law??? I was surprised that she didn’t do something with magical creatures.

Anyhoo… Keep the comments coming!!

Tonight someone asked me what my favorite part of the book was. Gosh, there are many. I love that Dumbledore is human and made mistakes. I love the way that Snape asked Harry to look at him as he was dying because he was in love with Lily. Oh and when Ron said that someone should warn the house elves, that is when Hermione kissed him. That was brilliant. But maybe my most favorite of all was when Harry was talking to Dumbledore in the deathly hallows and he asked ‘is this real or is it just in my head?’ and Dumbledore said ‘of course it is in your head, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t real.’ What a wonderful Dumbledore thing to say. Gosh I love that guy!

So… tell me… what was your favorite part of the book?

— Shonica    Aug 2, 07:17 PM    #

Magical law sounds like a good career for Hermione. I still can’t believe Hedwig died. And right at the beginning of the book. It was so sad! I thought one of the funniest part of the book was the ending conversation between Ginny and James about giving Neville love. It was hilarious!

— Jackie    Aug 3, 12:24 PM    #

I don’t know if Harry will B an auror, there can’t be many dark wizards left after what happened at Hogwarts can there??? I did cry when I read that Dobby died. i just couldn’t believe that he would go too. and the way that harry took it made dobby’s death 10 times worse. didn’t it??? He’s just the kind of person you would expect to hang around for ever, but then again Dumbledore did too. In HP you have to realize that the people most expected to live die. And I read somewhere that JK said “the deaths in HP were important because while good wins in the end, they still take heavy casualties.” I was a little sad that harry didn’t get to kill bella though it would have made a good ending of that little bit of the book don’t you think? Hedwig though that was sad, especially the way it happened her just disapearing like that.

DON’T CORRUPT THE MINDS OF OUR CHILDREN. DOWN WITH FANTASY

— She-devil    Aug 6, 02:12 PM    #

Hey, me again. i’ve got a question if anyone can answer it great. so when Voldemort’s curse bounced off of Harry’s forehead and destroyed Voldemort’s body. Who/What was possesing Quirrel??? and who/what went into that cauldren and came out ‘Lord’ Voldemort????????? Wouldn’t that part of Voldemort’s soul have been destroyed since it’s (for lack of a better word) home had been beyond magical repair????

— Strange    Aug 6, 05:33 PM    #

Hmmm… I’m thinking that the purpose of the horcrux was that Voldemort’s soul could not be destroyed even though it didn’t have a place to go. Because his soul existed in several other places, it couldn’t really die.

That is how I understand it. Anyone else have an opinion?

— Shonica    Aug 9, 12:41 PM    #

Shonica is the coolest YA librarian ever!! Oh, and my favorite part is the bit where Dumbledore is in Harry’s mind but real too. That was lovely.

— Kim L    Aug 9, 05:06 PM    #

hey shonica! love the way jk tied it up with snape. he loved harry all along. how sweet is that??? saddest part: Dobby. i didn’t cry for anything accept that and when harry was talking 2 the dead people at the end. by the way i really hope she-devil wasnt a parent. how rude. especially in HP euphoria. what would rons job be???

— D.G.    Aug 9, 08:26 PM    #

Yes, I agree about how she tied it up with Snape. Although I’m not sure if Snape loved Harry. I think that he saw James when he looked at Harry, except for the eyes… which made it soooo touching at when he wanted to look at Harry’s eyes when he died. Sigh.

My guess is that Ron became an auror too. What do the rest of you think?

— Shonica    Aug 10, 08:05 AM    #

P.S. I’m pretty sure that I know who She-devil is and she isn’t rude, she’s mischievous.

— Shonica    Aug 11, 08:31 AM    #

what is up with you people??? why is nobody addressing the VERY IMPORTANT fact that HP & co. broke into the ministy of magic right under voldmort’s nose??? or is the daily prophet keeping it all hushed up?? BTW dean marrys loony lovegood i’ll bet on it, it’s just too bad that jk said that she never found a crumplehorn snorkack (loony believes her dad may have been lying about that one). shonica who do think she-devil is though I can’t peace that one together??

— Strange    Aug 17, 11:28 AM    #

hey broke into the ministry AND Gringotts. Both EXTREMELY impressive and insane acts. That JK knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats doesn’t she.

I don’t know about Loony and Dean. I guess that I always assumed that Loony and Neville would get together. Who knows. Neville was pretty dang cool in this book. Brave and courageous… dangerous… living on the edge. I bet that he was a catch. I need to read that MSN article with JK and see what she said.

I could be wrong, but my first guess about is that … She-devil is someone who is cute but that doesn’t mean she’s nice. :) Only She-devil herself can confirm if I’m right or not.

— Shonica    Aug 17, 02:05 PM    #

I love HP, but I am beginning to wonder if She-Devil isn’t Shonica??? Anyone else curious?

— jewels    Aug 20, 10:58 PM    #

LOL! You crack me up. I’m not She-Devil. I’m cute AND nice. :) Plus I don’t think that fantasy corrupts the minds of our youth. But I don’t think that She-Devil believes that either.

BTW, I read the msn interview with JK Rowling and it was very good. Jerry has a link in the comment that he wrote up at the top if you would like to check it out.

— Shonica    Aug 23, 02:36 PM    #

I read in a JK report that she never planned 2 have Neville and Luna be anyhting but friends.

— Anonymous!!!!!!....again    Sep 4, 06:00 PM    #

Hey, strange. Luna married Newt Schmander’s grandson Rolf. Found it on the Harry Potter wiki. Ron worked for George, then he became an auror. Ginny was on the Holyhead Harpies.

— jackie p    Sep 7, 05:22 PM    #

Wonder when the encyclopedia that she plans to write will come out?
And will it answer all of these questions? Who married who and what did they do as grown ups?

— Shonica    Sep 9, 02:28 PM    #

I hope the encyclopedia will come out soon the suspense is killing me! who do you think the unlucky girl who married Draco is??? I’m not sure if would be Pansy. Though she was probably really impressed that draco tried to kill the trio while everyone else was looking the other way. I’ll say one more thing B4 I go back to school DEATH TO ALL GRYFFINDORS!!!!!!!! (i’m a true slytherin at heart) MUHUHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

— Strange    Sep 14, 10:00 AM    #

I’m amazed that nobody has yet resonded to Strange. But then I guess you are all to nice and polite to sink down to her level. I hope you’ve all listened to my advice and stopped reading fantasy books and started reading good classics like Little Women, or maybe Nancy Drew they are both lovely books. Now as shonica says ttfn!

— She-devil    Sep 18, 03:40 PM    #

She-devil is so naughty. Of course we haven’t stopped reading fantasy. As a matter of fact, I read a good one recently called Dragon Slippers which is located in New Juvenile Fiction. Of course there is a chance that I could read Little Women or Nancy Drew as well. I’m that kind of girl.

And in response to Strange…
LONG LIVE GRYFFINDOR!!!!

:)ttfn or how about this one…
Peace Love and Apple Jacks,
Shonica

Hey doesn’t anyone comment anymore or has the subject been disscused so much that people are just bored with commenting?? if you need a new subject to discuss try this one I AM SHE-DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thats right miss “just because i’m cute doesn’t mean i’m nice” has finally revealled her true identity. i’m sure you will have fun with this topic. you ought to know though that I only did that to see how you all would react to that kind of talk. i can’t take all the credit though, becuase the last comment i made as my secret identity was because my mum tried to get ME to read those books. and let me tell ya she didn’t succeed at all. once again I’M SHE-DEVIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i hope you comment about this.

Strange or better known as She-devil

— Strange    Sep 27, 03:42 PM    #

I’m shocked!! Although I have long suspected the identity of She-devil, I never thought that Strange would admit it.

So, if anyone is reading this one anymore… What do you think about fantasy corrupting the minds of our youth? Agree? Disagree?

Remember, I want to hear your opinion but be respectful of those people who don’t agree with you. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

— Shonica    Sep 27, 05:47 PM    #

Shonica this is my personal opinion I DON’T THINK ANYBODY WRITES HERE ANYMORE!!!!! which is to be expected the subject has just been to thouroghly disscused, correct me if I’m rong on the spelling,so I guess its just you and me. how much did you like the dragon that the trio rode out of gringots? and what do you think happened to umbridge, and sprout, and hagrid? but more importantly grawp? I hope her encyclopedia comes out soon it will answer a lot of questions

You’re right of course. No one writes on here any more. Although I don’t think that these things have been discussed. At least not by us on this website…

Loved the dragon. Was in complete suspense about how they were going to get out of Gringotts and then how they were going to get away from the dragon alive. It was a lovely twist I thought. Very happy that the dragon escaped a miserable existence as a guard dragon.

Umbridge… I’m thinking that life in the new world order is not as pleasant as she had it at the ministry. I can not honestly see Harry going to work at a ministry where Dolores Umbridge is employed. Unless she is now employed as a complete underling. Although, I can’t see her doing that either. Perhaps there is an underground society of power hungry control freaks of which she is the president. Or maybe she is busy writing her memoirs with the help of Rita Skeeter.

Sprout… I’m bet that her life continued as normal until she retired from Hogwarts and Neville took her place. But considering that he was her prize student I bet that she remains in contact with him. I bet she has a farm or large herb garden in her retirement. Then she can wrestle with dangerous magical plants for fun.

Hagrid… I don’t think that he would ever leave Hogwarts. He is likely to be their gamekeeper into his old age. And I’m certain that Ron/Hermione and Harry/Ginny’s kids are sneaking down to his hut after hours like Ron, Harry and Hermione did. Do you think that he ever tried to hatch another dragon?

Grawp… I bet that Hagrid found him a nice spot in the forbidden forest to live and maybe even found him a nice little giantess wife so that he wouldn’t be alone. There are probably baby Grawps running rampant in the forbidden forest causing much more trouble than Hagrid could imagine or give them credit for. But then again, I’m sure that the new ministry is much nicer to the existing giants and they are on friendlier terms with the magical world. At least, I hope.

Her encyclopedia could not come out soon enough. However if I were JK, I would take a long vacation before I thought about anything having to do with Harry and Hogwarts.

What do you think that her next project will be? The Encyclopedia of the Magical World or something completely different – A whole new novel not about Harry or any of his mates?

Did you hear about the new book JK wrote? It was The Tales of Beetle the Bard. There were only 7 copies written & she wrote all of them by hand. Too bad we can’t get a hold of a copy. That would totally rok!!!!!! I heart Harry Potter!!!! Long live Gryffindors!!!!

— Jackie    Dec 4, 06:16 PM    #

It is just mean to only have 7 copies of a book. Wonder what they went for? Maybe they will eventually print it like normal, it would be so cool to read the Tales of Beetle the Bard. I’m jealous of those 7 people.

— Shonica    Dec 6, 08:36 PM    #

So am I. I want a copy of the The Tales of Beetle the Bard. It would be so cool if we could get a copy from the library!

— Jackie    Dec 16, 07:17 PM    #

I have a few answers. Umbridge, in jail for cruelty to muggles. Neviell marries HannahAbbot . Harry and Ron walk in the footsteps of the late but not forgotten Alastor Moody. Hermione does work in the ministry of magic. Lupin and Tonks were sacrificed for Arthur Weasly. Jk had him dying but changed it. Sge finished the tale in a hotel room. Hagrid never got married. I am deffinetley a Weasly. I think the things that need to be broght up are the deaths of Collin Weasly And Goyle (i think but it might have been Crabbe correct me if i am wrong. I AM GONNA LOOK UP THE RELEASE DATE OF THE ENCYCLOPEDIA

— Kyle Sauley (king of cheese poems)I AM A WEASLEY    Jan 26, 11:05 PM    #

In the epilogue of the final book, it is revealed that Draco has a son named Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy.10 Rowling also revealed that Draco married Astoria Greengrass,11 the younger sister of Daphne Greengrass.[12He was named “Draco Spungen” in the earliest drafts of Philosopher’s Stone.6 “Spungen” also appeared on her pre-canon classlist, but it was crossed out and replaced with the surname “Spinks”, while “Malfoy” was later added after the completion of the list.

— Kyle Sauley (king of cheese poems)I AM A WEASLEY    Jan 26, 11:16 PM    #

Just the other day I was thinking about Collin Creevy and his brother dying and how utterly sad that was. But they were true Griffindors weren’t they?

I’ll bet that we have to wait a while for the Encyclopedia.

— Shonica    Feb 1, 09:42 AM    #

i think we will have to wait a while for the encyclopedia too.

— peace,love and harmony    Feb 1, 04:31 PM    #

I wonder if we will see something else by her, not Harry Potter, before we get the encyclopedia.

It is probably time for me to reread all seven. Although, I am likely to cry during book two when we are introduced to Dobby just because I know what is going to happen. And I’m not over it. I don’t think that I will ever be over it. Oh Dobby… how I’m going to miss that house elf.

— Shonica    Feb 3, 01:38 PM    #

I saw on the internet that in about 10 years she might start writing and 8th Harry Potter, maybe about all the children maybe about a heroic kid named Kyle Sauley who happens to live At MJCPL.
PS WHO WAS THE HIDDEN WIZARD I DONT REMEMBER.

— Kyle Sauley (king of cheese poems) PEACE LOVE AND HARMONY    Feb 4, 09:26 PM    #

I’m sure that there are five billion stories that she could write about characters in the wizarding world. And personally, I’d love to hear the one about the hidden wizard that we don’t remember from the books named Kyle Sauley. Maybe you should write that one, Kyle.

There’s an idea for wacky writers. We could all write HP fanfic.

— Shonica    Feb 7, 01:40 PM    #

I have things to add about people in the Harry Potter world. Percy married someone named Audrey and had two daughters named Molly and Lucy. Fleur and Bill had two other kids besides Victorie named Dominique and Louis. Lily Potter’s middle name is Luna and James’s name is Sirius. George Weasley married Angelina Johnson and had a son, Fred II, and a daughter, Roxanne. Wow, this is longer than I thought.

— Jackie    Feb 16, 06:54 PM    #

I just read on Wikipedia on the J.K. Rowling page that she hasn’t even started on the Harry Potter encyclopedia, and that it could take up to 10 years to finish because she wants to make it amazing.
