Let's learn to knit!!

March 6th
6 to 8 p.m.

You will need to bring knitting needles and yarn.

Here’s my plan, I’m hoping to find some seasoned knitters to come and help us get started and hang out with us. I know that some of you already know how, so you can help us get started too or work on a project while we are trying to figure it out.

My sources tell me that you should check on the yarn that you buy for the size needles to use. Any knitters who are reading this please feel free to comment and tell us what to do.

Plan on starting something really simple to learn on. We aren’t going to immediately be able to make socks. Unless of course you are some kind of knitting prodigy I guess. In which case, make me some socks while you’re at it.

I plan to have some learn to knit books laying around to help us too.

OH, and there is at least one crocheter coming to play. If you would rather learn to crochet, that is an option.

I’m also welcoming adults to come and learn too. It will be a big ol’ multi generational knitting/crocheting party. Yeeha!!

Any questions? Comment here. Any suggestions? Comment here.

Hi Shonica – my daughter and I are both planning to be there, to knit and to help people.
My suggestion would be for people to get a “chunky” yarn. WalMart has some acrylic made by Bernat – it’s called “chunky softee” and there are several colors to choose from. It is definitely NOT a good idea to start with fuzzy, fluffy “eyelash” yarn, as it is difficult to see what a knit stitch really looks like with all the fluffies/stringie strands in the way. I’ll have some of that yarn as samples that people can try with after they learn the basic stitch. Basic needles are a good idea too – with the chunky yarn, I wouldn’t go bigger than a size 8 or 9, but 6 or 7 is fine too. I’ll have samples so people can see the difference that the needle size makes. This is LONGER than I meant it to be, just trying to help avoid possible problems. Call me if you need to – Lisa has my number. We’re looking forward to this! Dee and Lily Stark
