More Wizard Rock
Ok, if you’ve been a YourSpace reader for a while you might remember a post last December about Harry and the Potters.
What you might not have realized is a whole new musical movement has since cropped up known as Wizard Rock.
Wizard Rock is the musical branch of Harry Potter fandom where the bands have fun with the stories and characters in the J.K. Rowling books. A few of the bands have released CDs and tour regionally and nationally.
According to Matt of the Whomping Willows…
Wizard rock has two major goals:
1) We want to encourage young people to read.
2) We want to encourage young people to be involved with music.
Wizard rock is not about self-promotion, fame, or fortune: It’s about education and fun.
That’s cool, especially as we are celebrating Literacy Month here at the library this month.
Check out this MySpace group page to hear music from a couple dozen Wizard Rock bands including Harry and the Potters, Draco and the Malfoys, The Hermione Crookshanks Experience, The Whomping Willows, Ginny and the Weasleys, Advanced Potion Making, The Prisoners of Azkaban, Dobby and the House Elves, The Parsel Mouths, and of course…The Moaning Myrtles.
Talent varies widely. Some of the songs are downright awful and others are rather good, but they are all fun to listen to. My current favorites are “Polyjuice Problems” by The Hermione Crookshanks Experience and “harry n the p’griff…” by Dobby and the House Elves.
So which ones are your favorites? Leave a comnent.
