Nano recap, Looking toward the New Year and anything else that might pop in my brain.
So it is already December and we made it through November — National Novel Writing Month. I am totally geeked about how well everyone did who attended the Write Ins. If you are Catherine, Veronica, Laura or Caroline, give yourself a big pat on the back. The four of them wrote a combined total of approximately 29,000 words!! Wow! That is a lot.
And I know that there are others who also wrote but didn’t attend the write ins, which is also super cool. For those who participated… well done.
If you didn’t meet the goal you set for yourself, you still did more than a lot of people and should feel proud of yourself for trying.
For those who thought of participating and just didn’t make it this year, write with us next year. OR have your own novel writing month.
Now, about 2008It is time for me to think about what cool things we should do.
I have some ideas, but I really need your input. After all, what really matters is what you think is cool.
Here is what I’m thinking about…
Game night including Guitar Hero. Yes, that’s right, Guitar Hero. You asked for it and the Friends of the Library listened. Hopefully it will be here by January.
Crafts — The options are endless. I saw some cool things to do with t-shirts. There is always duct tape. But if you want to do some kind of duct tape craft, you’re going to have to give me some new ideas. I might be running low on them. Ooh, unless we did duct tape roses for Valentine’s Day???
There’s always Dance Dance Revolution You just can’t go wrong with this one.
Open Mic Night where you would have the opportunity to perform… sing or play an instrument, read a poem or short story you’ve written. Perform a monologue or a skit with the help of some friends.
No Talent Show along the lines of an open mic night except that you wouldn’t prepare. You’d show up and do something that you know you are bad at, just for giggles.
OK, that’s what I’ve got off the top of my head. I know that you guys are terribly clever and have loads of thoughts on things that we could do here at the library. So don’t be shy. Comment and give us your idea. I am waiting in eager anticipation to read them.

OH! p.s. To make a long blog even longer…
Don’t forget to check out James Alexander Thom. He an author who is going to be at the library on December 11th. He writes a lot of really good historical fiction. I think that he will be talking about the writing life, so if you are a writer, you will want to be here. Plus, I met him at a writing conference once and he is a super nice guy.

Indeed, duct tape does rule.
Any duct tape craft project ideas? I must admit that I have not looked for any insight yet. I should do that.
So which is your favorite idea…. besides guitar hero. That one’s a given.

What kind of things did you think of doing with the t-shirts? We could make duct tape valentines.

I found this great book called Generation T, hopefully the library will get our own copy soon; I put in a purchase request.
There are loads of ideas of things to do with t-shirts. Many of them require no sewing skills at all, just scissors. Some need safety pins or ribbons and things like that.
Duct tape valentines! That’s a great idea. My plan as of today was to make duct tape roses and then if we have time, maybe venture into some other flowers, but we could also do valentines if we have time. Heck, is there anything that you can’t do with duct tape?

For Guitar Hero and duct tape we need to get cardboard cut in guitar shape and width then take rubber bands for the strings aqnd use push pens to hold it and then go crazy with duct tape and then play for no talent show. we could make a mini band the librarian duct tape experience o yeah that would rock.

THAT IS A BRILLIANT IDEA!!! Now I will HAVE TO schedule a No Talent Contest just so that we can see the Librarian Duct Tape Experience.
Heck, that could be the theme for our regatta parade float. :) I see you dressed in duct tape on a duct tape float. Of course, that would be very very hot. Maybe we will save that one for the Christmas parade.
