Pizza and Pages

pizzaEveryone’s favorite!!

Here’s the way it works.

You sign up for the books that you want to read.

Pick your book up a week before we meet. (Seriously, pick up your book. Because if you don’t, we’re going to give it to someone else. Hate to be that way but it is a way popular program and there are a limited number of spaces.)

Read the book.

Come to the library at noon on the Friday that we are scheduled to talk about the book.

Eat pizza and talk about the book.

Keep the book forever and ever.

One little thing, you really have to show up on Friday to talk about it. If you pick up the book and then don’t show up, we can’t give you any more books. Again with the thing about it being a popular program with limited spaces.

Now for the fun part!!!

I think that we have chosen a fabulous variety for our reading pleasure this summer.

June 13th Big Mouth and Ugly Girl by Joyce Carol Oates
Matt has always been a big mouth but it has never gotten him into trouble until … Ursula is the only person who knows what Matt really said that day and she’s the only one who can help him

June 20th Are We Alone by Gloria Skurzynski (nonfiction)
There are at least 10,000 million million million stars in the universe, and many of them have planets. Could earth be the only planet with life? Scientists doubt it.

June 27th Midshipwizard by Halcyon Blithe
A nautical tale rich in magic and intrigue, it follows the career of a young midshipwizard as he moves through the ranks of his majesty’s army.

July 11th Northern Light by Jennifer Donnelly
Desperate for money, Mattie takes a job at Glenmore, where hotel guest Grace Brown asks her to burn a bundle of secret letters. But when Grace’s body is fished from the lake, Mattie discovers the letters reveal the grim truth behind a murder.
(Because this book is a bit longer than the rest, you will have two weeks to read it.)

July 18th Millicent Min, Girl Genius by Lisa Yee
If Millie can hide her awards, ignore her grandmother’s advice, blackmail Stanford Wong into silence, learn to serve a volleyball over the net, stop her parents from embarrassing her forever, and keep all her lies straight, she just might make her first friend. What’s it going to take? Sheer Genius.

July 25th Other Side of Truth by Beverly Naidoo
A gripping adventure story about courage, family and the power of truth

Aug 1st Stonewords A Ghost Story by Pam Conrad
Zoe and Zoe Louise have a lot in common. They share the same name, they like the same games, they even live in the same house. But Zoe is alive and Zoe Louise died over a hundred years ago.

Hurray!! I’m so glad that you are signed up. This year I worked extra hard to pick a variety of books. A little something for everyone.

See you soon!!!

Hey, I signed up for all the books too, sadly I signed up late and am on the waiting list for a couple of them. I’ll try to show up for all of DDR and Guitar Hero, but I might not make it all the time.

That is a very good question and one that I’m sure other’s are asking. The answer is… I’m not sure. I’m going to have to look at the calendar and figure it out. The problem is that there is so much scheduled this summer. We might have to wait until August. We’ll see.

p.s. I’m very sorry about having to cancel. Strep throat is no fun!
