Pink and Say by Patricia Polacco
Pink and Say are two young Union soldiers one black and one white, who meet after a Civil War battle. Through their brief friendship, Say comes to understand Pink’s determination to return to the battlefields to fight against the “sickness that is slavery.”

You are never too old for picture books. I’ve always said it and this book proves it. Doesn’t matter how old you are. Read this book!! It won’t take long but even if it did, it would be well worth your time.
