Hanover branch is framed

Hanover library is now framedIf you haven’t driven down LaGrange Road in Hanover recently you will be very surprised. Work on the new Hanover-Jefferson County Public Library is progressing very well and you can now truly visualize what it will look like.

The framing and roof for the new addition is being completed and workers are already applying insulation and installing windows. Inside, the new children’s room is framed out and electrical conduit is being installed. Below are a set of photos taken on August 6.

Ground was broken for the project on May 21 with dozens attending the festivities. Hanover residents, library staff and officials from Hanover, Jefferson County and the state of Indiana attended. We enjoyed digging shovels into the ground and throwing dirt to kick off the project.

Bradshaw Building Specialties, Inc. of North Vernon, Indiana, is the general contractor for the project. Above is a rendering created by the library architects Prince|Alexander Partners Inc. of Indianapolis. This is how the new library will look like as you pull into the driveway on Madison Avenue.

The former bank building will become the adult reading room and magazine section. The former bank drive-through has been demolished to make way for the new wing that will house the children’s room. As you can see from the drawing, we will also have a drive through for book drop-offs and pickup.

The current time schedule calls for construction to be completed by February 2010 with opening in spring 2010.
