About the History Rescue Project

The Madison-Jefferson County Public Library is committed to preserving our county’s local history and genealogy.

This project, funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County, is designed to complement Madison’s 2009 Bicentennial celebration. What better way to celebrate our 200th anniversary than by preserving and making available thousands of records to aid historians and genealogists all over the world?

Our emphasis was to concentrate on transcribing and digitizing materials from our library collection that were little known, fragile or not easily found in other repositories. This task has since grown to including materials from other collections and the public at large.

We promise this effort will not end with our initial presentation, but will be an on-going project with more records and features to come.

The library deeply thanks the Community Foundation for its generosity. With them, we invite you to explore this website.
