Penalties

- Second misconduct will result in a one-day suspension from computer use.
- Third misconduct will result in a one-year ban from using the Internet or the computers.
- Parents will be contacted after each misconduct.
Parents
- In an effort to comply with the Neighborhood Children’s Internet Protection Act (NCIPA) regulation passed by Congress in 2001, the Library will use a software-filtering program on the children’s Internet computers. These programs are intended to restrict sites with obscene or adult content, gambling, violence and web-based chat. Security programs are used to protect the computer hard drives and to discourage attempts to break into private files.
- Within reason, requests for information will be honored. As much as possible the children’s librarian will guide younger students toward age appropriate materials.
- It is the responsibility of parents and guardians to monitor their own children’s use of the Internet and to assist their children in selecting materials that are consistent with their own values.
As a user of the Madison-Jefferson County Public Library computers, I agree to comply with the rules created by the Library for computer users.
