November is National Novel Writing Month

November, it’s not just for turkey anymore. It is also a time when we pull out our pens and notebooks and write with complete literary abandon. And it’s a blast!

If you’ve never participated in NaNoWriMo before this is how it works…

Adults write a 50,000 word novel starting at midnight on Nov first and finishing before 11:59 p.m. Nov 30. Because of the limited writing window, the ONLY thing that matters in NaNoWriMo is output. It’s all about quantity, not quality. The kamikaze approach forces you to lower your expectations, take risks, and write on the fly.

For more information and to sign up go to…

www.nanowrimo.org

Kids can also write a novel. The difference is that you can choose your word count. There is also a website just for young writers although I would recommend it to others as well. They have a Dare You Machine that has prompts like … Start a sentence with And then the aliens landed.

For more information about the young writers program go to ywp.nanowrimo.org

This is super fun and I truly hope that you participate!! You will be amazed with the creativity you experience in November.

Me too!! Excited that is. I love November for novel writing. At this moment I don’t have a single idea. I’m not worried though. Something will come to me.

Of course you know that I welcome any ideas that you might have. That is how I wrote last years novel.

See you soon!!!

There are two days before the beginning of National Novel Writing Month and I still don’t have a clue what I’m going to write about. I have the adult lead in a play that will start rehearsing in November and I have two mega knitting projects that will require lots of time in November if I’m going to finish by Christmas. But no plot, no characters, no clue.

No big deal.

Seriously, I’m not really sweating it because I know that when I get started something will come to me.

Anyhoo… I started this comment to say that you all should seriously go to ywp.nanowrimo.org and check out their resources. Just looked at them myself and they are great.

Nano News has tips to help you create an idea. The Writer’s Block has writing tips from other authors. There are workbooks you can download and print. And this is just from looking at the site for five minutes.

Adults should go and look at it too. You’ll be glad you did.

Happy writing!!!
