Present: Kelly Joyce, Vice-President; Mary Kay Butler, Secretary; Joy Culp, Treasurer; Sally Wurtz, Board Member; Robyn Ryle, Board Member; Judi Terpening, Director; Jess McAlister, Assistant Director.
Not Present: Terry Phillips, Kathy Rosenberg, Kathy Crafton.
Vice-President Joyce opened the meeting at 4:05 P.M. Butler made a motion to approve the agenda. Wurtz seconded. Motion carried.
Wurtz made a motion to approve the regular meeting minutes from May 8, 2025. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report & Approval of Claims
May 9 through June 12, 2025
Operating Fund expenditures were $123,443.63. Expenditures from all funds were $147,230.14. Operating Fund receipts were $2,243.06. Receipts to all funds were $21,252.28. Balance in the Operating Fund as of June 12, 2025 was $653,477.74. Total bank balance was $1,392,578.85.
Expenditures over $6,000:
$11,505.00 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums.
$8,000.00 to Midwest Collaborative, for Strategic Planning Consulting. Fee was partially paid with grant money.
Butler made a motion to approve payment of claims for $147,230.14. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.

Local History website had 1,243 visits.
Monthly newsletter went out to 4,900 recipients.
Facebook followers 3,940. Top posts by engagement and by reach were Welcome Mats Photos.
Instagram followers 827. Top post by engagement was FOL Spring Book Sale. Top post by reach was Tiny Art Show.
YouTube had 151 views.
Niche Academy had 112 views.
FAQ had 20 views.
Circulations in May were 15,647.
There were 74 new library card registrations.
Visits to the Library in May were 6,102.
Public computer users were 675. Wi-Fi users were 537. There were 1,776 logins to the Wi-Fi.
Staff and Volunteers
Library Assistant Delainey Phillips graduated from IUS with a BS in Psychology.
Library has two new volunteers: one in Local History and one in Children’s.
Claire Slygh was hired as a summer college intern and Olivia Russell as a high school intern.
Staff will no longer be teleworking, except in special situations. Due to potential future budget constraints, there are no plans to hire additional staff and all employees will be needed on site.
Terpening was on a panel as a public library representative for IU alumni, discussing librarians meeting the challenges of today.
Ongoing and Upcoming Events
Summer Reading theme is Color Our World. Upcoming events include Tiny Art Show, Tie-Dye Shirts, Performers and various crafts.
Sponsors this year are Arvin Sango, FOL, Culver’s, McDonalds, Dairy Queen and Rockin’ Thunder River Tours.
Silent Book Club, a new program at the Hanover Branch, will begin in July.
Community
Produce Pop-Up Market for Seniors, in partnership with Purdue Extension, is happening July – September. The purpose is to get fresh produce into the hands of seniors who qualify.
McAlister and Friends of Clifty Falls put up the new Story Walk book at Clifty Park. The title is Senorita Mariposa, a bilingual book about monarch butterflies.
Building/Renovation/Technology
The van has been repaired and returned to the Library, but the vinyl wrap will be done at a later date. Fiction Wraps will pick the van up and return it.
A new replacement quote was received from Executive Elevator. Architect will request other quotes.
Friends of the Library
The Spring Book Sale made about $2,000.00.
Upcoming sidewalk sales will be June 28, July 26 and August 30 from 10am-1pm.
Correspondence
Received first quarter report from the Community Foundation. Endowed assets grew .07%.
AVC notified Terpening that she was featured in one of their promotion mailers.
Received a letter regarding TIF revenues from Madison Redevelopment Commission.
Continuing Business
Personnel Policy is still being reviewed.
New Business
Wurtz made a motion to approve the Collection Development Policy as amended. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
Wurtz made a motion to approve the Slate of Board Officers for 2025-2026. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.
The Strategic Plan has been completed and presented to the Board for approval. Due to the length and detail of the plan it was tabled until all members have had an opportunity to read it.
Motion to adjourn by Wurtz at 4:35 P.M. Ryle seconded. Meeting adjourned.
