Present: Kelly Joyce, President; Mary Kay Butler, Vice-President; Joy Culp, Treasurer; Kathy Crafton, Board Member; Kathy Rosenberg, Board Member; Robyn Ryle, Board Member; Judi Terpening, Director; Jess McAlister, Assistant Director.
Not Present: Terry Phillips, Sally Wurtz.
President Joyce opened the regular meeting at 4:00 P.M. Crafton was appointed as Secretary Pro Tem.
Approval of Agenda
Crafton made a motion to approve the agenda. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes
Rosenberg made a motion to approve the minutes from the regular meeting on May 14, 2026. Ryle seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report & Approval of Claims
May 15 through June 11, 2026
Operating Fund expenditures were $134,813.02. Expenditures from all funds were $156,904.19 Operating Fund receipts were $974,670.98. Total receipts to all funds were $993,425.38. Balance in the Operating Fund as of June 11, 2026 was $1,602,489.52. Total bank balance was $2,351,076.69.
2 Expenditures over $6,000:
$11,676.06 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums.
$10,849.00 to Indiana State Library for Info Express.
Crafton made a motion to approve claims for $156,904.19. Rosenberg seconded. Motion carried.

Second Saturday Stitchers had 5 attendees.

Upcycled Literary Vase craft had 20 attendees in 3 sessions.
Red Cross Blood Drive had 35 attendees.

Farmer's Market: 26 visited the Library table and 8 did the Tissue Paper Flower craft.
Summer Reading (Kara and Hope visited area schools to promote the Summer Reading Program)
Children's Elementary School Visits: Spoke to 48 groups; Students reached: 1,944.
YA Secondary School Visits: Spoke to 11 groups; Students reached: 2,073.
Social Media/Circulation Statistics
Website had 3,450 visits. Highlights: Libby and Summer Reading.
Niche Academy had 24 views. Top tutorial by views was Beanstack.
Local History website had 1,440 visits. Top pages: MCHS, Yearbooks.
Email Newsletter went out to 5,161 recipients. Top link was Events Calendar.
Welcome Journey, a series of emails sent to new patrons, had 1,002 starts and 855 completed.
Facebook followers 4,359. Top post by engagement was Decorating Totes. Top post by reach was Library Closed May 12.
Instagram followers 874. Top post by engagement was Silent Book Club. Top post by reach was Summer Reading.
YouTube had 185 views. Top Video: Remembering Madison 1961.
Circulations were 14,799.
Made 52 new library cards.
Visits to the Library were 6550.
Public computer users were 594. Wifi users were 609.
Staff and Volunteers
All staff members attended the Summer Reading Staff Meeting on May 15.
Youth Department hired 2 summer interns through the Work and Learn program: College student Allie Riedel and High School student Jenna Renfrow.
Thanks to the Good Neighbor program at Hanover College, Local History has a new intern, Colton Auxier.
Terpening attended the ILF Board meeting online.
The SBOA and DLGF workshops on May 21 were attended online by Terpening, Culp and Poling.
Ongoing and Upcoming Events
Tiny Art Show is ongoing with artists submitting their work by June 30. Exhibit runs through the month of July and winners will be announced at the end.
Dementia Friends training by RSVP will be in the Hanover sunroom on June 18.
Library will be closed June 19 for Juneteenth.
Silly Safari Animal Show will have 2 programs on June 17 at 11am and 1pm at Madison.
A Pirate-y Peter Pan puppet show will be on June 22 in the Madison auditorium.
Other programs include rock mining, shell painting and Kinusaiga fabric art.
Friends of the Library
Spring Book Sale made $2,088.25.
Volunteer Don Rosenbarger planted the pollinator garden in front of the Library and Margaret Geyman has been watering the flowers.
Building/Renovation/Technology
Bookmobile update for the first month: 71 visitors in 10 stops, 3 library cards made, 1 card renewed, 50 prints and 2 holds placed.
Hanover repairs update: outside digging and redirecting of rain flow is complete. New flooring is complete in the sunroom. Parking lot sealing is postponed until Juneteenth weekend.
The elevator upgrade is in week 9. The fireproof door has been installed. Partial fire alarm testing has been done. Elevator and fire alarm companies will return to finish up, then the inspection can be done.
The State Board of Accounts audit exit interview was on May 26. No results can be shared until the final report is completed by SBOA.
Trustee Training
ILF Trustee Membership and Training is live.
Membership is free and each trustee is registered.
ILF received a grant to offer sessions to increase advocacy and training.
Registration is open for in-person trustee training. Terpening will attend November 9, 10:30 am - 3:30 pm at the Hyatt in downtown Indy. Mileage is reimbursed. Breakfast and lunch are provided.
Free online training will be available through United for Libraries. Terpening has registered. If sessions are short enough, they will be scheduled for Board meetings, starting in July.
Correspondence
Received the Community Foundation report for quarter 1 of 2026. Endowed assets grew 1.61% in the first quarter and improved to 8.85% through May 18, 2026.
Received the TIF district meeting notice.
Continuing Business - None
New Business
Crafton made a motion to approve the Slate of Officers for 2026-2027. Ryle seconded. Motion carried. Mary Kay Butler, President; Sally Wurtz, Vice-President; Kathy Crafton, Secretary; Joy Culp, Treasurer will serve July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027.
Terpening requested approval to spend $36,811.56 for the purchase of new staff computers from AVC, the Library's IT company. Ryle made a motion to approve the expenditure. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
Terpening informed Board members that Terry Phillips will be retiring from the Board effective at the end of his term, June 30, 2026. She has contacted the Jefferson County Commissioners about his replacement.
Motion to adjourn by Crafton. Seconded by Ryle. Meeting adjourned at 4:23 P.M.
