Present: Terry Phillips, President; Kelly Joyce, Vice-President; Mary Kay Butler, Secretary; Joy Culp, Treasurer; Sally Wurtz, Board Member; Kathy Crafton, Board Member; Kathy Rosenberg, Board Member; Judi Terpening, Director; Jess McAlister, Assistant Director.
Not Present: Robyn Ryle
President Phillips opened the meeting at 4:01 P.M. Joyce made a motion to approve the agenda. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
Wurtz made a motion to approve the regular meeting minutes from April 10, 2025. Crafton seconded. Motion carried.
Treasurer’s Report & Approval of Claims
April 11 through May 8, 2025
Operating Fund expenditures were $121,746.54. Expenditures from all funds were $148,843.93. Operating Fund receipts were $1,998.35. Receipts to all funds were $27,029.54. Balance in the Operating Fund as of May 8, 2025 was $774,678.31. Total bank balance was $1,518,556.71.
Expenditures over $6,000:
$11,505.00 to Jefferson County Treasurer for health insurance premiums.
$8,000.00 to Midwest Collaborative, for Strategic Planning Consulting. Fee was partially paid with grant money.
Butler made a motion to approve payment of claims for $148,843.93. Wurtz seconded. Motion carried.

Red Cross Blood Drive had 36 attendees.

Digital Literacy Program at La Casa Amiga had 10 attendees.

The Stories, Science and History of Trees by Smithsonian Gardens Greenhouse Horticulturist Matthew Fleming: 4 registrations, 3 live views, and 59 archive views.
The Thrill of Writing Action, Adventure, and Suspense by Gregg Hurwitz: 1 registration, 1 live view and 6 archive views.

Website had 2,573 visits.
Local History website had 1,132 visits.
Monthly newsletter went out to 4,876 recipients.
Facebook followers 3,905. Top post by engagement was National Library Workers Day. Top post by reach was Reading to Dogs.

There were 53 new library card registrations.

Public computer users were 642. Wifi users were 560. There were 1,859 logins to the Wifi.
Staff and Volunteers
Five staff members attended the ILF Regional Conference on April 11.
Hope Community honored their volunteers in April. Bowman and McAlister were recognized.
JCPL hosted the Regional Directors Roundtable on April 25 and had 20 attendees.
Summer intern positions have been posted on the EARN Indiana website for one college and one high school student.
Ongoing and Upcoming Events
Motsinger and Westmoreland have been visiting Elementary and Jr. High schools to talk about Summer Reading.
Touch-a-Truck will kick off Summer Reading on June 2.
Tiny Art Show will also kickoff on June 2, when participants can begin picking up kits.
During the summer there will be a puppet show, petting zoo, animal show and others. The theme is "Color Our World."
Community
Terpening discussed the recent shooting at Jackson County Public Library in Seymour.
DLGF and ILF are reviewing bills passed during the most recent legislative session, that will impact local government. They are preparing guidance to help libraries with 2026 budget preparation.
Buildings/Renovation/Technology
Library van is at Chandler Chevrolet for repair. It is estimated to be ready by May 16.
Terpening is working with the architect on RFPs for the elevator.
Strategic Plan
MCLS has a rough plan ready, but Terpening will wait until the plan is finished before presenting it to the Board.
Friends of the Library
The Spring Book Sale will be May 16-17.
Correspondence - None
Continuing Business
Personnel Policy is still being reviewed. The mission statement, or vision statement in the policy will be changed when the Strategic Plan is finished. Terpening discussed other proposed changes to the policy.
New Business
Joyce made a motion to approve the following nominations for Board officers to serve July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026: Kelly Joyce, President; Mary Kay Butler, Vice-President; Sally Wurtz, Secretary; Joy Culp, Treasurer. Butler seconded. Motion carried.
Crafton made a motion to approve the Website Privacy Policy with no changes. Wurtz seconded. Motion carried.
Motion to adjourn by Joyce at 4:36 P.M. Meeting adjourned.
